Mary Helen Washington has been awarded the title of 
Distinguished University Professor. The highest academic honor conferred by the University of Maryland, this title is reserved for those who have shown themselves to be exceptional in their fields. This honor acknowledges the outstanding contribution of her internationally acclaimed work in African-American literary and cultural studies. Mary Helen will be recognized as Distinguished University Professor at the Faculty and Staff Convocation on Wednesday, September 14.
